City of Long Beach Unanimously Approves Contract Extension Through 2018
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 23, 2014) – The Long Beach City Council unanimously approved an extension to the current Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach agreement that will allow Indy car racing to continue through 2018, Grand Prix Association of Long Beach officials announced.
Final approval of the amendment by the City Council took place Tuesday evening, April 22. Simultaneous with the granting of the extension that the Council instructed City management to enter into the RFP (Request for Proposal) process to determine whether to continue with the Grand Prix Association running Indy cars or to switch to another format after 2018.
“We’re delighted to have received the unanimous vote of the City Council for approval of the extension of our contract with the City through 2018,” said Jim Michaelian, president and CEO of the Grand Prix Association. “This will afford us the opportunity to continue to partner with the City in conducting the #1 street race in America for years to come.”
The 2015 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will take place April 17-19.
