O'Connell on Pole for Pirelli World Challenge Race
Johnny O'Connell, Flowery Branch, Ga., No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac CTS-V.R, GT pole, 1:20.386 (new track record, beats old of 1:21.087 set by James Sofronas, Audi R8 LMS in 2013)
(on changes) "We definitely got the car better. Qualifying is about being smart. Knowing when to push and when to attack. We know what laps our tires are at their best. It was very fortunate my tires were the best was my clear lap. Also Andy went super fast, so we got his car better. We are definitely, right now, benefiting from guys with new equipment who don’t know their sweet spot. We have four years knowledge."
(having 2 Cadillacs on the front row) "Makes it nice, doesn’t it. We have to be smart. There’s a lot of good drivers and good cars behind us. We need a good start – hopefully we see the lights."
Jack Roush Jr., Livonia, Mich., No. 60 ROUSH Road Racing Ford Mustang Boss 302S, GTS pole, 1:27.325 (new track record, beats old of 1:27.662 set by Andy Lee, Chevrolet Camaro in 2013)
(on track conditions) "The track felt good. From practice yesterday been trying to learn the track, taking care of the car. Crew did a great job on this ROUSH Ford Mustang."
(to get pole) "I’m pleasantly surprised. I know tomorrow won’t be easy but so proud of this crew and all this effort."
Nick Mancuso, Chicago, No. 16 R. Ferri Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, GT-A fastest qualifier, 1:21.329, P7 overall
"I’m getting more comfortable getting the car up to speed. We barely did any testing, learning the car every lap. Not really pushing that hard. He’s (teammate Anthony Lazzaro) is a lot more comfortable in the car. I’m still trying to feel it out."
